The beginning of Chinese New Year 2017 (according to the lunar calendar) begins on the New Moon which in 2017 will be on the 28th January 2017; this will take place after the Winter Solstice and the event is celebrated by millions of people in every single country and area of the world that you can think of. Chinese New Year is a time of new beginnings and signifies a fresh start for everyone. Chinese New Year is very much a family event where the social side of things is concerned and is a time of reunion and thanksgiving. Below you will find everything you will need to know about Chinese New Year 2017, year of the Yin Fire Rooster…

Those born in the year of the Rabbit could be affected by the conflicting influences of the year of the Yin Fire Rooster. Although the Rabbit is the conflict animal of the Rooster year, those born in the year of the Rabbit should be aware of potential difficulties they may encounter during the year and take extra care in whatever they do without taking unnecessary risks in all aspects of their life. Regardless, if you follow the advice here you can avoid many problems, in our opinion so do not panic. It should be noted that there are five different types of each Chinese Animal (fire, water, wood, earth, metal) which depends on the year you were born and each different animal will have different predictions for the year ahead; you can find out more about this in our 2017 Feng Shui guide.

For example:
Metal Rabbit: 1951
Water Rabbit: 1963
Wood Rabbit: 1919, 1975
Fire Rabbit: 1927, 1987
Earth Rabbit: 1939, 1999

The degree of this influence varies from one person to another. One of the major considerations is the heavenly stem of the year in which one was born so if you were born in 1927 or 1987 which would be a Fire Rabbit, the year will not be bad at all.

  1. Hi Michael, I always enjoy your thoughtful, common sense comments on this blog. When are you planning on posting information about yearly adjustments for 2018, Thanks, Will

  2. Hi,
I am from Bhutan and truly believe Chinese Fengsui. Wish to buy a new car for my personal use, Would appreciate if could tell me what colour is best for born in 1968 monkey year

    Tandin Wangchuk (Male)
    Bhutan

    1. Hi Tandin,

The best colours for you personally are listed below; I have also included your complimentary and reducing colours.

      Enhancing colours:
Shades of reds, peach, burgundy, maroon and pink. Any colour that has a fire look to it. Enhancing colours are the element colour that assists you and this case fire creates earth.

      Complimentary colours:
Yellows and browns. Any colour that has an earth look to it, this can be any shade of yellow or brown but the deeper the colour the better. Complementary colours are the element colour that assists you and this case earth assists earth.

      Reducing colours:
All shades of greens, silver, white, gold, bronze and copper. Wood and metal are colours that will reduce your personal element so try and avoid these colours. It may be that these colours are your favourite and if this is the case stick with them as this type of Feng Shui is a guide only and although can assist you it is not paramount that you use them.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

  3. Hi,
I bought 2017 cures ths year and doing well so far. Just wondering we might be moving out end of ths year to another home. Do i need to purchase new kit for the new house or can i bring the kit that i have now?
I know i need to throw out the salt water but how abt the rest of the cures?

    Pls advise. Thank you

    1. Hi Eva,

You can bring the kit apart from the salt water cures as these should not be moved around. I would make sure you cleanse all of the cures before placing them in your new home. Good luck with the move.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

  6. Great article, very informative. I have a question about disturbing the Grand Duke… What happens when you have a large lawn that needs cutting regularly with loud commercial type mowers. Surely this constitutes a regular disturbance. If this is a problem, how do you recommend treating it?… the grass has to be cut! I welcome feedback from all contributors to the blog.
    Thanks you

    1. Hi Will,

When we have regular disturbances in certain areas of the home or around the property, we need to make sure you have all of your cures and elements in place for the year to weaken or avoid any problems that could occur from this.

I have my washing machine in the south of my home this year and although it is not great, I am not worried about it and things have not come across any problems so far.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

    1. Hi Colleen,

Could you please let me know your date of birth and I will be able to find the best dates for you.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

  7. I was told that renovations is a no no this year for the roosters but we need to get it done. He told me that I need to put a pair of pi Yao in the west sector of the house and if anything start in the north of the house is this true

  8. Hi Michael!

If you could please clarify this statement in one of the paragraphs in The Three Killings – east (52.5-127.5) –

“never sit with your back towards the west, it is better to face east instead.”

Does this mean I have to sit with my back facing east? I’m really confused.

    1. Hi Kristine,

Thank you for pointing this out to me. Could you please point me to where this is from so that I can correct it.

You should aim to face east this year rather than have your back to it.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel

  9. Hi Daniel/Michael
Thank you for answering all my questions!
I have your software and have completed the natal chart for my property and have compared this to the 2017 annual chart. There are some conflicting things that have me confused. For example, in the centre (natal chart) I am to use fire colours and to get a metal oil burner and light a candle each day but the annual chart is saying that I must avoid fire colours (good colours are blue, black, grey) and no candles at all costs! Which should I follow?
    Many thanks and best wishes
    Amanda

    1. Hi Amanda,

When dealing with the fixed and annual Flying stars, you need to find a good balance.

If your centre says to use fire colours for the fixed stars and the annual stars say not to use fire colours, I would avoid fire colours for the year although if you already have reds in that area, keep them there but be sure to introduce the recommendations for the year.

      I hope this helps, Amanda.

      Kind regards,
      Daniel
